Is your business Personal + Approachable?

I just got done shooting my marketing video. And you're probably asking, "Why would you do that?" But, here's the thing, what I want people to know and what I want them to understand: You can really book any photographer you want. And if you convey your message to them in a way that they can understand it, they could probably duplicate what I do in the camera.


Which, I mean, let's be honest, is kind of a downside to my job; there's other people who can literally duplicate what I do as far as techniques and stuff.


But that's not what I'm focusing on. I'm focusing on the experience that I bring when you work with me.

I'm very giggly. I'd like to think I'm very approachable. Hopefully that translates into me being very relatable to people when I work with them. That's what I wanna push. That's what I wanna sell. That's what makes me me. You can't get that from anybody else. And that's what I wanna get across: When you work with Rachael (me) it's a fun, laid back experience. We hang out. Work gets done. But it's not scary. When you hear the word marketing, we tend picture stuffy people in suits; and that's not who I am. That's now who I want reach.


My challenge for you to today is to examine your business and see if you're being personable and if you're approachable.


PERSONAL: I want everybody to look at their Instagram... Are you in your Instagram feed? That is my first challenge for you. If you're not in your Instagram feed, there is a huge problem.


You can't be personal or approachable if you're not even being shown.

Have you thought about that?


APPROACHABLE: If you're asking questions and engaging with your audience when people comment on videos, Are you going back and replying to them? Are you answering their questions? Letting them know you're there? That you're a real person?


There's so many different systems set up now where we literally have robots talking to us. And that's not gonna sell. If it does, it's not gonna last; which is not good.


Make sure that you're being personal by actually responding to people. Posting engaging things, and not spamming people with stuff.


Those are your two challenges this week.


Let's go full circle... back to the video I made... I like the thought that people will be able to meet me before they meet me. That's my goal right now: That people will be able to say,


"Hey, I think Rachael seems like a pretty normal person. I can let her come photograph me for a little bit and it wouldn't feel like I was being tortured."
